J. R. Boynton

About this site

I'm J. R. Boynton, currently living in the Washington, D.C. area. My principal expertise is designing and running web publishing and development environments. I build systems that make it easy for developers to succeed and be highly productive.

I'm also very good at web interface design and typography. Typography is something of a black art, and there is much opportunity for improvement in the web's use of type. Much.

This website started as an experiment in automated web publishing, xml databases, and web interfaces. The colophon has more details.

The articles here were written over a period of years, going back to 1998. Some of the details and references are clearly dated. The notes and examples under Gory Details are mainly intended as reference. Getting the details right makes all the difference.
